A GREAT DAY IN HARLEM(‘s Studio Museum)
So in finding a balance between spending time consuming art and spending time with my lil lady…I decided that i would go to a museum with my Lil’ Lady….
She was excited just with the idea of riding the iron horse, see since we have the family(business) van, she’s used to see the world from the backseat going as 55 mph blur, but not today. Today she is love with the idea of getting on the shuttle bus, where each stop brought a series of new discussions, color, noises, faces, until we got to our destination.
Then came the train…she loved it it…from the trembling of the platform to the screeching sound the train made as it pulled in…. and of course nothing was more exhilarating than the ride on the train itself. The train sway she rejoiced, it stopped at every stop she applauded. WoW! I ride this through these artificial warm holes almost everyday…i never look at my journey with such excitement. Maybe she sees something i don’t see.
So we make it 125th Street, our train stop destination and we all cheer for getting there in one piece, this is the NYC Train system, and we head out, until we re-surface to the main land. Walk through the legendary 125th street of New York City. She saw, heard, felt, smelled the old and the gentrified versions of Harlem. She saw the landmarks, she heard hustlers, she smelled the mixture of frangrant oils and openly fried fmeats from local food vendors, until we got to the museum itself…and then…
we were hit with the ultimate in family trip disappointments…the family program that the museum host, sponsored by Tagret, where we were going to view the present exhibitions and partake in some art and crafts that’s related in someway to the exhibit, that program was canceled… So now what?!
Well, we decided to chill.. walk thru the Museum.. enjoy the exhibits…but as we walk around I discovered that my daughter, already experienced the Art of Knowing New York…and this is just the beginning.
